The Science Behind FoodCycler: How FoodCycler & Foodilizer Transform Household Food Waste into Organic Fertilizer?

The Science Behind FoodCycler: How FoodCycler & Foodilizer Transform Household Food Waste into Organic Fertilizer?

Welcome to a new era of sustainable living in Malaysia. At MYFEEL, we’re passionate about helping Malaysians reduce food waste at home through simple, smart technology.

That’s why we introduced the FoodCycler, a compact and efficient household food waste recycling machine that turns your daily food scraps into a nutrient-rich material we call Foodilizer™.

In this article, we’ll walk you through how the FoodCycler works, what makes Foodilizer unique, and how this innovation can help you move closer to a zero waste lifestyle.

What is the FoodCycler?

The FoodCycler is a compact, electric composting machine designed for the modern kitchen. Unlike traditional composting systems, the FoodCycler fits right on your countertop and operates cleanly indoors with no odor, no bugs, and no mess.

Using a combination of heat, aeration, and grinding, it breaks down your household food waste—such as vegetables, meat, dairy, and grains—into a dry, lightweight material in just a few hours. This process reduces the volume of your food waste by up to 90%.

How Does It Work?

The FoodCycler works in three stages:

  1. Drying – The machine heats food waste to approximately 140°C. This removes moisture and eliminates over 99% of harmful bacteria.

  2. Grinding – Once dry, the waste is crushed into a fine, consistent powder.

  3. Cooling – The final product is cooled to make it safe for immediate handling and storage.

The result is a dry, odor-free substance that can be stored and used as a soil amendment—this is your Foodilizer™.

What is Foodilizer™?

Foodilizer™ is the by-product of the FoodCycler process. While it’s not compost in the traditional sense, it serves as a nutrient-rich soil amendment. It contains essential plant nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (also known as NPK), which are important for healthy plant growth.

Because Foodilizer has gone through heat treatment, it’s almost free of microbes and safe for storage. It also doesn’t smell, making it convenient for indoor use.

How is Foodilizer™ Different from Traditional Compost?

Traditional composting involves months of microbial breakdown in an outdoor environment. It requires time, space, careful balancing of green and brown materials, and regular maintenance. FoodCycler offers a cleaner and quicker alternative.

Foodilizer, by contrast, is produced within hours using heat and grinding, not microbes. It’s ideal for households with limited space, limited time, or those who want an easier way to deal with food waste.

Understanding Foodilizer’s Nutrient Profile

The type of food waste you process can affect the characteristics of your Foodilizer. For example, a vegetarian household’s output tends to have a higher carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, which is excellent for plant soil.

An omnivorous diet, which includes more protein and fats, produces a nitrogen-rich Foodilizer that may need to be mixed with more carbon-based materials like dried leaves or sawdust before using it in your garden.

In both cases, the end product is beneficial for soil health when used correctly.

How to Use Foodilizer™ in Your Garden

Using Foodilizer is simple. For outdoor plants or gardens, you can mix it directly into the soil. If your Foodilizer is made mostly from vegetables and plant-based waste, you can mix one part Foodilizer with ten parts soil.

If your Foodilizer contains more meat or dairy waste, we recommend using one part Foodilizer to twenty parts soil. This helps balance nutrients and minimizes the risk of excess nitrogen or salts.

For indoor plants, it's best to dilute even more to prevent any risk of root damage and to ensure healthy growth.

We also recommend applying Foodilizer to soil about a month before planting. This gives soil microbes enough time to break down the material and release its nutrients gradually.

Why Malaysians Love FoodCycler

FoodCycler is gaining popularity in Malaysia for many reasons. It’s odor-free, quick, energy-efficient, and easy to use. It works well in high-rise apartments and terrace homes where traditional composting isn’t practical. It also operates all year round—rain or shine—without depending on outdoor conditions.

Most importantly, it helps you reduce household waste and methane emissions from landfills, making your lifestyle more eco-friendly and future-proof.

Backed by Research: The FoodCycler Lab

At MYFEEL, we take product performance seriously. Our FoodCycler Lab continuously runs tests on Foodilizer samples to study their nutrient levels, pH balance, and effectiveness on plant health. We are also studying how different food inputs affect the quality of Foodilizer and how best to use it for various soil types and plants.

This research ensures that we’re not just selling a machine—we’re providing a sustainable waste solution supported by science.

Final Thoughts

The FoodCycler is more than just a kitchen appliance—it’s a tool for sustainable living. Whether you’re new to composting or looking for a smarter way to manage food waste, FoodCycler offers a simple and powerful way to turn waste into something useful.

Make the switch today and join the growing number of Malaysians turning their kitchen waste into a greener future—one cycle at a time.

📌 Note: While the FoodCycler is often called an “electric composter,” it does not rely on microbial composting. Instead, it uses heat and grinding to produce a nutrient-rich soil amendment, which we call Foodilizer™. It’s clean, safe, and easy to use for households of all sizes.
